I have a topic I have wanted to discuss since I first learned about soft washing.
Soft washing in preparation for painting.
In my extensive experience at my Fathers surface preparation business and as his sandblaster from the age of 14, it goes against everything I have learned to first apply salt then a product containing a waxing agent in preparation for paint.
Painters commonly use Sodium Percarbonate to prep for painting however this requires a pressure washer to clean thoroughly. Due to fear of liability I have also stuck to this method when painting will follow.
That being said I just soft washed a $3mil custom built home that was on the leeward side of a steep busy road. Soft washing cleaned the building to the point where I could get zero discoloration to transfer onto a white rag. Some dark stain was left and customer decided to paint front of home two weeks after soft washing. I had even cleaned the property border walls with Sodium Percarbonate because I knew they would be painted. All is well as of now however, I fear and will monitor for paint adhesion issues.
Has anybody noticed paint adhesion issues after soft washing?
AC, would you soft wash your home as paint prep? Would you alter the process or take a different route?
