What would you do?

I received a used Twin Pump system with a bent reel and bent handle.

The reel can be straightened fairly easily, but the the handle is comping apart at the weld (a couple twists and it will fall off).

Seller offered me a new reel or $250 in store credit.

Do you think re-welds will hold up as good as new?

Which would you do?

2013-12-07 18.21.57.jpg2013-12-07 18.22.20.jpg

I know I ask a lot of questions. Hopefully, one of these days, I will help answer a lot of questions, also.

Merry Christmas, everybody!

May God bless us, every one!

If you bought it new, which it looks like it was... I would just have them replace all of it new.. From what I hear they stand behind the products that they sell..

Get a new reel. See if there was insurance on the shipment that will pay for it, if the shipper bought it.

But $250 will buy the better part of GreenWash and BleachWash...

Can it be said that the handle will never be the same after it is re-welded?

Thank you, Michael.

I'd get a new reel as well. $250 will only buy you so much chemical...

Once you go to re-sell it when you're ready to upgrade, it will be worth at least $250 less with a re-welded handle and bent reel.

And if the welds don't hold up - you'll probably buy a new reel down the road for $400.

Vic,

New reel if the shipper is offering a new one take it. Remember your customer will be looking at your equipment.

It was a once used floor model, and it was 20% off.

The guy who shipped it should have pulled the reel off before shipping.

I don't know what his big hurry was.

Steve has always been really fair with me.

If I really needed to, I'm sure I could return the unit, but if the handle will hold up, I'd prefer to just keep it.

I don't know the exact amounts, but I think I save about $500 if I keep it, and they save a lot of freight charges...

Now if the handle will just hold up :)

Has anyone had weld problems before that we should hear about?

John, Eric, and Brandon,

Thank you guys for your thoughts. Reel is a very important part of the softwash setup, huh?

That is an open offer, so I am going to try to visit the folks at Titan to see if there is *ANY" way to just replace the handle on that reel, first...

Any bets?

It would be very embarrassing to be on the job and have the handle fall off in your hand.

You're right, Eric, the customer may see that and it would not look good ;)

Thanks, again,

vic

Call Titan and see if they sell the handle separate.

I can't answer that, John, but I wouldn't think so.

I didn't pay shipping or handling, and when you throw that into the mix, I really did get a good deal, and want to keep it.

It does look like we can probably just replace the handle.

I don't know which Titan Reel is used on the Twin Pump system, but if it is a 5400, we are in business ;) (see attached Adobe file, part #15).

I got it off this webpage: http://www.titanprod.com/pdf/5400parts.pdf

Ha, if I'd known that link would work, I wouldn't have photographed that Adobe file.

Argh, still learning.

The handle assembly is just a stainless cap with handle welded on. It would be very easy to straighten and reweld. And it will hold up fine. Im also sure a replacement handle and side plate of the reel can be bought from Titan but your distributor will more than likely have to make that purchase.

Vic I know you can definitely get a new handle from your distributor. Call them and make a deal for a new one and some credit towards the green wash and bleach wash. As far as the disc goes they are a pain to get on and off so I would just try and bend that back.

Lastly just because your reel is bent dosent mean people are going to hire you or think your unprofessional. I would take care of the handle before using it. Also make sure you rinse it out and run some bleach wash in there after every use and keep an eye on the manifold inside where they have the T welded on( it always leaks eventually).

Vic just like Chris said, you can weld it with no problems. We had 2 brake this year and are still holding up great.

I would weld it, yes it will hold up longer, if the welder is good, and take the 250$.

Aloha Vic, I have the same set up as you do. I spent the last twenty plus years as a welder and I would definitely weld it up and take the credit. Even an amateur welder could weld that up for you and it will be fine. I guarantee that thing took a serious blow to bend and break that weld and once its fixed and bolted in the truck you shouldn't have to worry about those incidents. Thats a good score I love my twin pumps, just make sure you have a back up pump and two back up pressure switches for the pumps as they tend to go out if the pump is left on for to long without cycling. Call Paul at the Power Wash Store he's a really good guy and very helpful. He designed an agitation system for me to run CH for under $100 and it works like a champ.

No the handle will be fine if fixed. Wish you were around here. I have a few extra reel handles in the garage that are new. Maybe I can pass you one at Softwashapolooza.

Sounds good AC, thank you, but don't forget my roof anchor!!!

I need to do another thread on airport to the Inn costing $60 each way.

May have to rent a car if I can't find some folks that want to share a taxi on Wednesday and/or Sunday eveninga...

I really want to thank everybody for sharing your ideas.

Steve Blythe is checking on the price of the handle, but I will let him know that I won't be needing it, and would like the $250 store credit!!

I will use every bit of it on Softwash needs, and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in Orlando. blankstare
