HEY GUYS, I CLEANED MY FIRST ROOF TODAY USING 18 GALLONS OF WATER AND 7 GALLONS OF SH AND 14 OZ OF GREEN WASH. THE ROOF WASH HAD ALOT OF ALGAE AND MOSS ETC. THE ALGAE AND MOSS TURNED WHITE ALMOST IN SECONDS. THE PROBLEM I HAD WAS THAT AFTER I WAS DONE I NOTICED THAT THE ROOF WAS ALMOST DRY AND I STARTED TO SEE BROWN STREAKS ON THE ROOF. (I DIDNT SEE THEM BEFORE I SPRAYED THE CHEMICALS ON). I HAD TO ADD SOME MORE SH AND RE -SPRAY THE ROOF AGAIN AND THE BROWN STREAKS WERE GONE. ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR MY NEXT ROOF JOB. I FOLLOWED THE FORMULA EXACTLY AND MY SH WAS STRONGER THAN 12.5. THANKS CHRIS LAGRASTA
Christopher,
Sounds like everything went fine. Depending on severity of the stains a second application is usually needed. If there are areas of heavier staining pretreat those let it dwell. Then spray the entire roof. Sometimes stubborn spots might needs a light third treatment.
Given the fact that you had moss the staining was pretty bad. Remember a good rain will finish everything off for you. Light orange stains will rinse. Just don't leave black stains our you'll be going back later.
It always helps to take pics so we can help you better.
Congratulations in the first roof. It only gets easier.

Chris I was the same way last year. Trust the chemicals. I find if there is heavy moss, lichen etc, the GM underneath will not readily be killed with the first application
Allow the dwell time and then hit it again and really soak the heavy moss etc so the spray can get thru down to the black underneath.
Gregg is spot on about leaving any black streaks or spots That definitely will mean a trip back later to finish the cleaning.
I have found that will really heavy moss and lichen we have had to return and treat those areas a few rains knock off the heavy concentrations Just have to explain why your cost may be more than someone who will blow it off right now. Then again, you leave the roof intact. hmmm
Congrats Chris on your first roof. Being new to this softwashing myself I have a math check question on your mix.
Looks like you made a 25 gallon batch. The mixology sheet says to use 128 oz per 100 gallons......50 gallons would be 64 oz........25 gallons would be 32 oz. You only used 14 oz.
Did I miss something along the way or did you just use less GW on purpose or by mistake?
HEY JEFF, THANKS FOR HELPING. CORRECT ME IF IM DOING THIS WRONG. I WAS GOING BY THE GREEN WASH ROOF MIX CALCS (THE SPREAD SHEET) I MIXED ABOUT 18 GALLONS OF WATER, I ADDED 6.0 GALLONS OF 12.5% OF SH, (I THINK IT WAS STRONGER CAUSE I GOT A 55 GALLON DELIVERED) AND 16OZ OF GREEN WASH, AM I READING THIS WRONG. THANKS JEFF
hey steve where did you find the roll out hoses for the gutters. i used a heavy duty plastic bag and it worked great. but alot of houses i can let the chemicals go into the woods. i just cant find those hoses that go over the gutters. thanks

I dont reccomend using bags or hoses on gutters. Have you taken the plant and property protection module yet?
Check you numbers on the GW. Only 64oz per 100 gal 32oz per 50 gal. If you have a steep roof you can add more for better cling. Not sure i'd double it even in those cases.
Gregg

Here is where I got the 128 oz per 100 gallon......http://softwashsystems.com/page_mixology.htm. Actually it is the link "mixing softwashing chemicals" on the top of the page here.
I also have the spreadsheet that says 64 oz per 100 gallons, then we have the softwash page online here that says 128 oz per 100 gallons. That is why I asked the question. I have two sources with different info.
Apparently at least two softwashers use the 64 oz as the mix with good results. I will go with the spreadsheet as well.
We follow the mix ratios that was in the binder we got at Softwashapalooza. For a 100 gallon mix based on 3% strength. 30 gallons SH, 70 gallons water 64 ounces greenwash. We've used these ratios over a year and we get good suds and good results. just divide by 4 for 25 gallon mix tank. For a real dirty roof we bump it up to 4 % or 40 gallons bleach.
The 128 ounce increase was an adjustment based on feedback on scent control. 64 ounces per 100 gal works well as a starting point. Feel free to increase for cling, suds and scent.
IVE BEEN GETTING CALLS FOR ROOFS THAT ONLY HAVE A LARGE RUST STAIN ON THE ROOF FROM EITHER ANTENNAS OR CHIMNEY CAPS. CAN I ONLY USE F9 TO REMOVE THE STAINS AND IF SO HOW WOULD I APPLY IT AND DO I WASH IT OFF. THANKS CHRIS LAGRASTA
