Use 1/2 inch. It will give you better flow rate. Also it will be less strain on the pump. I would use 3/4 inlet hose as well.

3/4" in and 1/2" out. That's the design of the 12volt pump system.

Just remember the larger the diameter of the hose, the less length of hose will fit on the hose reel.

After 25 years of tinkering we have found that 1/2" is the best way to go. Flow rate and hose weight and workability considered.
