First I would check the durability of the shingle itself. If it falls apart with just a little garden hose water pressure then walk away. If not then stick with a 3% solution put some green wash and Terra wash in your mix. Rinse with garden hose and apply oxalic acid at 12 Oz to 1 gallon ratio after the rinse then walk away. It's best to do cedar in sections.

Jeff,

Wood Restore takes the place of the Ox Acid. It also conditions the wood. Have Whitney send you a few gallons as a sample to try out on that roof.

1. Start as light on the % as possible and work your way up if needed. No use over bleaching the wood and loosing the woods character.
2. Use 2/3 Terra Wash and 1?3 Green Wash instead of straight Green Wash.

Also pre wet the roof first. On the main house you can most likely get away with a 2% mix. On the other area with the moss you will most certainly need a 3 % mix. Pre wetting the roof will stop the mix from soaking all the way thru the wood. I don't know what wood restore is nor have I heard of it that is why I did not suggest it. But if it takes the place of ox then use it. Make sure you rinse that roof really well before applying the wood restore.

Don't clean the porch roof, it needs to be replaced. Those thinner cedar shingles don't last as well as the thicker handsplits. That red soldier lichen is a bitch to clean. It penetrates deeply into the wood damaging it. Set expectations low for customer. Cedar cleaning can be very profitable call if any questions. We will do a lot of cedar this year.

Hi how can i aply wood restore after i cleaned the roof? Can i use the same pump with the same line hose...? How is the mix .? 50/50 water/wood restore..?? Should i wait until the cedar roof is dry to aply wood restore..? Thank you

Jeff, sorry to hijack the post. :0)

Carlos, you can apply wood restore with a pump up sprayer, or with the Gilmour 362 hose end sprayer set on #2 (2 tablespoons = 1 ounce) without the reducer tip installed in the draw tube for 1 ounce per gallon. If you run the wood restore from your SH tank, you'll need to flush your tank out really well before putting SH back in or you'll run the risk of residual wood restore neutralizing your SH. To keep from losing the little reducer on top, go ahead and put it in your draw tube and change form the #2 setting to the #6, as 6 teaspoons = 2 tablespoons = 1 ounce per gallon, and with AC's new condensed wash mixes, that reducer will come in handy.
