Having seen the results Brandon Vaughn had on his metal roof restoration, we had full confidence when we met with the owner that we could handle this project. To be on the safe side, we ran a test first.
We used F13 (Gutter Grenade) to cut through the oxidation, and like Brandon pointed out, a lot of brushing, rinsing, and more brushing. Because of the steep slope, my guys worked from a ladder attatched to a hook from the peak. Very labor intensive.
We finished with a healthy application of Bleach Wash to get that waxy luster on the finish. This roof is 17 years old and is now restored to its original color and finish.
It's a lot of work and should be priced accordingly. This one side required about 1 1/2 gallons of F13 at a 10 to 1 mix.
I'm thinking the Bleach Wash will protect the surface about the same as a factory finish. How long before we can see oxidation on the surface is still the big question.
I love the reflection of dormer windows on the porch roof. Great visual impact in the before and after photos.
If I'm out of line for asking this question let me know ?You mentioned it was labor intensive but can you give us an idea on how long this job took and the roof square footage?
Hank, my two guys were 95% done in 3 days. The fourth day was all touch up and the final application of Bleach Wash.
Our SWS rig has a booster pump, which really speeds up Bleach Washing and rinsing. I priced the project by the day, but it worked out to be about $2.00 a sq. ft.
Great job Bob,we have lots of matel roofs on the Island and the same problems happens to the roofs over here,I'm thinking of getting into the roof oxidation.
What chemical can I use and what's the soluctio mix should I use.
Thanks and keep up the good works.

No Dan, He is waiting until spring to make a decision. I have spoke to him in person at a few local football games and showed him these before and after pics of Bobs job. He is not sure if he wants to hire it out or do it himself. But definitely a spring project.
Bob, have you had a look at this roof recently to see if the colour is holding up or showing any signs of oxidation again? I would love to know how long a restoration like this would last.
We followed the steps you outlined and did a demo for a customer with the same problem. She loved it and wants the entire roof done (~5000 sq ft) but I would like to be able to have a guess at how long the finish would last. Let me know.
You were right about the labour intensive part. Will definitely be pricing accordingly.
Paul, this building is not where I would see it without specifically driving down to it. My expectations from using Bleach Wash as a finish coat would be at least 4-5 years before discoloration from oxidation. It took 17 years to create the before picture.
Our process was prior to SWS Oxy Wash being available. Get some of that and run another test, that way using all SWS products.
