Not sure if this was every mentioned here on the forum but if not here you go.
We were contacted by a builder a few weeks ago regarding algae growth and what was supposed to be algae resistant shingles. This home was the builders home when he contacted the shingle manufacturer to inquire why the shingles had grown so much algae being only 5 yrs. old they had no explanation nor would they tell him what they added to these shingles to make them algae resistant. They also would not provide any reimbursement for servicing the roof until he requested that the shingles be removed from 5 other jobs that he was in the middle of building. The manufacturer changed their tune and explained that the shingles should be cleaned by applying a solution of chlorine bleach, they even emailed this builder a "technical bulletin" issued by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association explained Algae discoloration on roofs and how to properly clean them. This bulletin supports our processes and is a great third party piece to use with your customers, it completely contradicts those lawn signs scattered throughout our towns that read "NO BLEACH ROOF CLEANING" - ROOF SHAMP**. This bulletin also states "Caution! High pressure washing systems for algae removal should not be used."
If anyone should want or need this bulletin please post a request and I will send over to you.
I'm also posting some before and after pictures of the builders home which by the way was cleaned by TruClean and paid for by the Manufacturer.
Thanks for the reminder Greg. Yes it has been discussed here before just a while back. The doc you mentioned is even attached to that thread. However its always great to mention it again from time to time.
