It bothers me that the township can regulate what you do in your own driveway. I go to work everyday and pay taxes....taxes that go and feed the ones that don't want to get up everyday to go to work, and let people like us take care of them....talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Many of the homeowner associations around here prohibit the parking of commercial vehicles in driveways. I'm lucky as my garage is bigger than my house(LOL) and I park my truck inside nightly. Down in town they don't seem to have an issue with it. Perhaps you could apply for an exemption to the ordinance based on that you use it for both work and commuting and it's the only vehicle you have available during those times. You might have to prove it to them by stating your wife or children have to use other vehicles to commute to work, school, etc.

Danny-typically I wouldn't worry about that bylaw at all except a plumber just moved in across the street with a brand new Lettered Econoline van. Within two days the police were knocking on his door telling him to move it be fined. It looks like we have a by the book neighbor lurking behind his closed door.

Tim- truck doubles as a personal vehicle. I have a trailer set up. Still do services that require a pressure washer. I currently put my rig in a boat yard -$35 per month, but still need my truck at home.

Hank- been doing some reading and it looks like if I get 100% of the street's residents to sign off I'll be permitted to keep a lettered truck in the driveway. It will be interesting to see which of my neighbors hesitates at signing my petition.

I have the same problem with my subdivision bylaws with commercial vehicles that says you can't have company logos visible from the street. I was thinking on just putting the phone number on the front fenders and doing a wrap on the tailgate. how do think that would look?

Not having a wrap is like deciding to only advertise 40% just silly. Id park in the garage, in the back yard, at a rental lot, use a car cover, get some static cling blanks to cover your logo and phone numbers, etc.

Wraps and company lettering and just WAY too valuable!

The people's republic of Michigan. It's a good thing they want to take your money for business licenses
and you get nothing in return. All this does is to encourage unlicensed contractors. Throw a tarp over the truck.

Buy a truck cover and throw it on there when you come home and park each night. It will deter vandals, save you from the costs/headache of parking elsewhere, and keep your truck clean at night.

AND no one can hassle you either.

I'd fight it. If you lived in an HOA development or CSA as some are calling it now, than I can see the issue. However, I look at this the same way I look at handing out flyers. It's not solicitating because I'm not knocking on people's doors trying to sell them a product, I am just informing the public and it's not trespassing if you use the driveway and walkway to approach the door unless a NO TRESPASSING sign is listed.

Flyers fall under Freedom of Speech so I don't see why having your truck wrapped wouldn't fall under the same stipulations?? And I would contest even further that means no bumper sticks, or "Vote for Joe Shmo for Mayor" logos on windows, etc. Fight it.

If anything else, that hurts local business owners like Fast Signs or other small business that creates wraps and lettering....
