My sales Rep called me today to make sure we can clean iron wood decking. It has a oil stain on it. it has light mold/mildew but the home owner wants to know about the high traffic area. He lifted his matt and asked if it would look like that again.
what are your experiences with this type of decking.
Ironwood is just Ipe decking. We always clean it with sodium percarbonate and brighten with oxalic acid. The wood is very dense and trys to repel stain or oil finish. In order to keep them looking new they need to be maintained every 6-12 months. If not they return to the grey and weathered look.

Chris exactly hit it on the head. Very dense and resists staining or any moisture. That is why it makes great decking. If your using SoftWash Systems products try this to make sure it comes clean.
1. Premoisten with Green Wash and Water sprayed from a green top 20 gallon Gilmour hose end sprayer. Not the red top 6 gallon! This will break the surface tension and allow for chemical penetration. 2. Spray the surface of the wood with a 1% soft wash solution with a one ounce per gallon Green Wash ratio. 3. Agitate with a medium bristled brush where needed do not pressure wash. 4. Rinse with clean, clear water. 5. Neutralize with Bleach Wash sprayed from the 20 gallon green top hose end sprayer. 6. Final rinse with clean, clear, mineral free (Concord) water.
