I've been searching with the search button and reviewed my Roof Spraying Techniques module, but can not find out if we are supposed to apply Bleach Wash to a cedar shake roof after it has been cleaned/treated with a couple coats of 2%.
Part of me feels the same way, the other feels like I shouldn't neutralize and allow it to continue to kill until the sun breaks it down or the rain washes it off. I'm guessing the latter and that perhaps the use of the Bleach Wash would be warranted if I was planning to stain/seal it so that the sealer would bond better to the wood fibers. I'm not sure though.
We're not expecting rain for several days here, so I think I may just apply it in two light coats and then let sleeping dogs lie.
If you clean the shake roof at a 2% solution and the roof remains honey gold or close to it you will need to HALT the bleaching reaction so that the wood doesn't go white. Depending on age of the roof the UV sun rays may have already bleached the wood white. Younger roofs may clean up to honey gold though. To HALT the bleaching reaction at a desired point use SoftWash Systems Bleach Wash mixed with water per label instructions.
On shake roofs clean the roof 500 sq feet at a time. Spray, Rinse, Bleach Wash in order, then move to the next 500 sq ft area.
