I've been asked to submit an estimate to clean the exterior of a 26,000 square foot, high traffic, retail building. Much of this work will have to be done after hours, possibly overnight due to the high traffic flow. This is my first foray into large commercial projects and I would appreciate some pricing guidance from those that have done these before. It should clean up nicely with a 2% mix as most of the issue is algae. I have included a pic. We are scheduled to do a test area this weekend and I believe if the job is priced correctly we have an excellent shot at getting the work. Input is greatly appreciated!
After you do you test you will see how long it will take. then just price it out to how much you want to make per day. for commercial jobs we try to do $2000 a day. im in ct and you are in mass so that is where i think commercial work should be at but its your call. Also you said this is your first commercial job. keep in mind many companies when entering a new market like to keep their prices very low to get their foot in the door. this might be very beneficial to put on your reference list. some companies will go as far as not making any profit just to get the referral. think about it.
I didn't know there was a meeting tonight? Are they posted on the calendar?
Danny,
SoftWash Authorized Professionals Group Meeting every week. You need to meet the requirements to be involved in the meeting, or well on your way to meeting them with the intent of completing the steps shortly. http://softwashsystems.com/page_SoftWashAuthorized.htm
I'm really looking for some pricing guidance per square foot. I understand that you might not want to publish your price on this message board but please send me a private message. I am far removed from most of you so you should have no competitive concerns. I will hold your reply in strict confidence.
I am up against painting and powerwashing quotes. Thanks again.

Thanks, for clearing that up. I got an email two weeks ago about a meeting, so I wasn't sure.

I was letting a few people get in and have a sneek peek. Now we had to reduce it down to SWS Auth only.
In order to be successful, One must do what other successfull people do.
We begin life watching and mimicing what others do, learning to talk for example or holding the flashlight for dad while he worked on a vehicle. Sure, we got yelled at for moving the light away from the task at hand but even that was a lesson in paying attention, following directions and staying on task. . People that follow in their parents footsteps with a career or job tend to make what their parents made, including mistakes like one life lesson I learned the hard way. My dad tought me how to make an excellent income in Nuclear work, however he knew nothing about money managment, thus I followed in his footsteps making a lot of money but not knowing how to control it and make it work for me.
Every dollar spent for education, reguardless of the field, is a dollar working for you. In my experience I have found that successful people will readily share their story and experience with us but it is up to us to spend the time learning and digesting it . In days gone by an apprenticeship meant working for free with a knowledgable person, gaining experience that would one day make the student successful in that particular field.
I worked my way up the ladder starting as the fng, being made to do everything. At first I was dismayed because I was making peanuts compared to other people. But it was that grunt work that made me pay attention to what I was being tought, the student eventually became the teacher. The more we learn in this particular industry, gaining knowledge from mistakes and from listening to successful people will inevedibly lead us down the road of getting off the wand, being able to look back and smile at how much was learned, leaving us with the satisfaction of a job well done.
Most of us have spent years doing back breaking work. We were lucky to find this fork in the road and even luckier to have taken that fork instead of continuing down the same path of doing the same thing and expecting different results. We can and will be prosperous in this venture despite any negative comments from family or friends. Remember where you came from , and never forget to thank God for putting the fork in the road . This wand is a lot lighter that the ditch digging shovel I started with long ago.
