Dan,

This is good marketing material..... It is similar to my "Consumers Guide To House Washing" I am working on. Don't let it just reside on your site, use it on your printable marketing Matl. as well. Get it in front of Everyone.

Looks good and Great Job!!!

Chris

Dan,

Like most of it. One spot I have an issue with if you care to discuss off line.

That is a real nice list of benefits. Sales needs to be tied to benefits for the buyer, not features that impress us about our systems.

Please have your final document checked for spelling and grammar. We have noticed so much literature and advertising materials full of misspelled words and improper grammar.  That can really detract from the message we are trying to convey to discriminating buyers.

Spell check is good, but may not catch all the mistakes.

Considering the education level of the target market we are selling our services to, this can set up apart as professional companies that pay attention to details.

That will not go unnoticed by our customers. They will reward us with greater compensation for services rendered.

I like the Top 10 concept as it is surely familiar to most people today.

Bulleted lists prevent us from burying good thoughts under a mountain of words.

My two cents worth. Usually if you have my 2 cents worth and $1.29 you can get a cup of coffee at Sheetz...

Dan,

I looked at your price quoting page. Seems like a great idea and handy tool for prospective customers. How is it working for you?? Do you know if competitors are possibly using your formula and under-bidding you? That would be my only concern. Are the benefits outweighing the concerns? Love to hear how that tool is working for you!

I love it, whenever I have a customer calling I always point them in the direction of my website.  Very little people know about roof cleaning around here and they definitely don't know the price.  Right now we don't have much competition but you don't need a calculator to underbid in my opionion.  I think the calculator is a good idea that everyone should have it helps keep our prices more standard.  Only concerns are that homes are built differently, for example mine is built for a home with an attached 2 car garage, since that is 90% of the homes in my area.  It also works well for me because every roof up here has gutters and is a shingle roof

You may want to check your calculator , your price goes down as the stories increase . its cheaper if I have a 3 story house than a 1 story house . On your 10 reasons , you mention health benifits and how organisms pass thru a roof an into the attic . You may want to rephrase that , since if they are passing thru shingles , tar paper and plywood , there is a hole in the roof .

Matt,
I too had to take a second look as to why the price was going down for the extra stories, but I see what Dan is doing here. A 3000 s.f. structure will have a larger "footprint" if there is only one story as there will be over 3000 s.f. of roof area when you take into consideration the pitch factor. Conversely, 3000 s.f. spread out over three stories will have much less roof area to cover all three stories. Probably a little over 1000 s.f. (w/pitch factor) assuming all three floors are the same - like a three layer cake.

That said, I'm not sure if Dan is also including any extra for the "risk" of working at higher elevations.

Dan,

A great tool I use is Zillow.com.  You can enter the customer's address and get accurate details about the s.f. of their home.  Click on "more information" and you can get the s.f. of their garage.  You can go down to the bottom of a house's page and view arial, birds-eye, and street views of the customer's home too if they are available.  Some in the rural areas are not.  I've found this to be a tremendous help!!

Mark

Ya some people have some difficulty with the stories, but you explained it exactly right, I did factor in the risk, for example a 3000 sqft home, 2 stories is $529 a 3000sqft that is 3 stories is $500, its about 1/3 less roof but its higher costing more.

It is always open for critizism, I can easily change how everything impacts a roof cleaning. But this is just a good rough estimate the customer can see.

I found zillow to not always have some of the info that I'm looking for, that's why I went ahead and made calculator.

Dan with all due respect a 3000 sq ft 2story roof should be at minimum 600.00 and a three story house would be minimum 695.00. The higher the work the more it costs. I dont see how a 3000 sq ft house 3 story would have less roof than a 2 story.

A 3000 sq ft house ( foot print) with a 5/12 pitch roof will have the same roof area wether its 1 ,2 3 or 4 stories if the pitch of the roof is 5/12 . I live in a 2 story house , if I add a 3 rd story to it and keep the same pitch roof  the amount of roof area remains the same .

Myself I charge by the job , I go out look at each job , and price each job based on the conditions of that job . i never give a ballpark price or try to quote over the phone . I always talk to the homeowner face to face to close the deal .

you should use sq ft becuase then you will have accuarate pricing throughout each and every home and it gives a basis of where you came up with your number instead of looking like you just picked a number out of the air.

Always room for critque I appreciate it.

My calculator has a 3000  2 story low pitch as 529. Medium  as 595 and high as 661.

3 stories probably needs to get bumped up.

Alot of my factors come into play from the pitch and the infestation maybe I can tweak it so they have less impact.

Mike I will send you a PM.

The first thing that I determine is  how much I want to make off of the job , then I add my costs . Sq. ft. is only a small factor of my equasion. there is so much more past that ,I have been selling home improvenents for 30 years . When I give a price I will be the most expensive, and I know it , I dont want to have to rush , do it right the first time. I would rather do 2 jobs a day and make what my competition does on 4 jobs . It works for me .  I never justify my price with a customer , its bad business .  A sq ft price limits your profitability it can basically tie your hands .  I see too many contractors leave money on the table because they undervalue themselves . Just because you have work , doesnt mean you are making money .

Ok i agree with you on the part of doing less jobs per day and making more money becuase thats what i do. The sq ft allows me to be consistant and i also use factors like pitch landscape and difficulty of the job to determine the price per sqft. We are deffinetly higher than our competitors and we shoot for 750 or higher per job. We take our time to but we are very proficient at what we do and most jobs are done in under 4hrs.(roof,house,and driveway).

I understand what your talking about at the end of the day you need some consistency and for me the size and pitch of the roof helps determine that the best.  I also think the calculator helps a lot for closing, when I get calls, most customers already did their research, they have a ballpark and they are happy with it.  I'm doing an estimate in about an hour the guy already used the calculator, I will see how it turns out.

Apex , on your calculator it says sq ft of home , me I would measure my house length X width . that gives me the sq foot , your calculator doesnt say sq ft of living area . A customer could have difficulty with that .

Yes , but if I have a 3 story house with a footprint of 30 by 60 , and my neighbor has a rancher with a footprint 30 by 60 we both have the same roof area , with similar pitches . But the 3 story house has 5400 sq ft and the rancher has 1800 sq ft . of living space . I was looking at your calculator as a customer , I would not be filling in my total sq ft of living space , I would be entering the footprint of my house , length x width that would be my number , not length x width x 3 floors . Thats why i questioned why your price decreases as the stories increased .
