I am in the process of purchasing a new hose reel for my enclosed trailer setup.
I am considering mounting it on a swivel that will allow me to rotate it into the side door opening of my trailer and then when not in use swivel it back against the side wall. No crawling over the reel to access thru the doorway...
The swivel system will probably consist of a post from floor to ceiling with a plate mounted to it so it will pivot.
The other option is to purchase a reel with a pivot post on it and then adapt to the trailer if such exists.
Two questions: I know SH eats manifolds at some point. So, my thinking is to not run Sh thru the reel but use QC on it.
I wanted some feedback on the benefit of spending money for Titan or others reels with Stainless Steel plumbing. Is it worth the money or just start out from day one not using the manifold, which means I can buy a reel that is less expensive.
I think the Titan's with the SS manifolds are great for what we do, and Lori at PWP even sold a PVC replacement manifold for these at one time. It was not listed on their site, but she sold them.
Any hose reel you buy is going to need some repair, replacement manifolds, and maint as time goes by. I purchased the Cox Reels from Northern Tool. They are very well built, but have a black iron manifold. I have my own machine shop and will make my own Kynar manifold when these give out. I have been using them for about a year now and am very happy. SH will eat any hose reel with time. The key to making them last longer is Rinse Rinse Rinse. I rinse with water after every job. Now I have the Bleach Wash that neutralizes the effects of the SH and started running this through my system at the end of every day of usage.
Any equipment that we purchase in this business is expendable and an expense, that we should figure in our cost of doing business. My advise for you is to look at your budget, see what you are comfortable spending $ wise on a reel and spend the extra money on other items that can help your efficiency or bottom line. If you have the money to buy the all stainless titan with the stainless manifold option go for it, it will last a long time when cared for properly. There are many good reels out there, but in the end they all finally give in to the SH and need repair / replacement.
I think it is allot of work for you to unreel all your hose, connect to a pump and QC back on the hose reel. You will still get SH in the manifold when you start reeling up the hose. I think the extra time to do this will add up, and not really be worth the little benefit it may give you.
I have had a Titan from day 1 (2 years ago) I rinse after every job, and so far noblems yet, other than replacing the swivel. I haven't used AC's bleach wash yet, but with the guys who have, it seems to be getting good reviews. Maybe bad manifolds are a thing of the past if you use the Bleach Wash.
As for mounting it, maybe this would work for you http://www.dultmeier.com/products/search/1778 With this you me be able to go right through the trailer wall and avoid the extra cost of a pivoting hose reel mount. I may decide to try this out in my box van.

Very nice Barry,
Great suggestion for anyone with a box truck or enclosed trailer.
I have found Dultmeier to be very helpful in my searches for unique equipment. They are usually my first big order of the year. I get all of my Banjo ball valves, PVDF nozzles, and other plumbing fittings from them. Prices aren't bad either.

Same here,
I buy more from them than any other vendor. Get all their catalogs, there are items in the other catalogs that are not in the Power Wash Cat.
They have the best prices on the Pentaflex 7gpm pumps. $299 bought one from them two months ago.
Thank you gentlemen. I pretty much have arrived at similar conclusions about Titan. I do believe based on Doug's suggestions, bleach wash will increase equipment life... so starting with the better reel is a good investment. And I know equipment replacement in any business is part of the costs.
My previous life we used diamond grinders for concrete work and a set of 8 heads costs me 3-6 thousand per set... So a few hundred will be a picnic!
