BUTLER, Ind.—
Authorities in northeastern Indiana say a 27-year-old maintenance worker was killed when he fell 100 feet from the roof of a building and his safety harness failed. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department says the accident happened about 9 a.m. Tuesday in Butler.
Detective Adam Friedel tells The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne that David W. Gingery of Garrett was cleaning a roof atSteel Dynamics in Butler when the structure collapsed.
Friedel says a safety cable snapped under Gingery's weight and he fell to his death. He worked for the Power Clean company.
Company spokesman Fred Warner says Steel Dynamics is investigating the death.
