Test a area before you do the job. We had a job with lead coated copper all over a house. The home owner was a metal freak, everything on this house was metal. We started cleaning the shingles and the flashing (lead coated copper) around the chimnies turned black instantly as soon as the SH hit it. After discussing with the home owner what happen with the flashing we ended walking away from the job. The home owner was fine with the flashing because it was not visible and appreciated our honesty. Be careful

I get that, but does it return to the original patina the same way that copper returns to the original patina after a couple of months.

It should, however lead coated copper is just copper plated so be careful not to eat all the way through the copper finish.
