What type of soap are you using?
Do you have a before picture, the only time we get whitish residue is from the dead GM.

Now that it is warm and getting hot soon pre wet the roof, to cool it down your mix will work better and not leave behind that salt.

I'am all ready pre wetting the roofs hear and the water run off is very warm almost hot.

Unlike popular belief SH also leaves a residue on roofs much like CH. SH leaves salt and CH leaves calcium. SH does have less of a residue. Also some soaps leave a residue. Are you using Green Wash or a foaming surfactant?

Using Green Wash only...1/2 gal on a 55 gal batch for a 12/12 pitch roof.

I remember AC telling me not to pre-wet a roof unless I were going to add some other chem to break the tension the moisture would create.........

I wonder how often this would happen and at what temperature it would start doing it.

We often have that type of residue. I attribute it to the fact those areas have been hit heavier. We have never had to worry about the residue, as a few rains and it will brighten up and be gone.

There is a lot of dead bacteria, mold, fungus, lichen etc left behind in the "killing field" on the roof. That is why you went there, to eradicate parasites. Dead carcasses left all over place... Well done soldier

GARY, is the homeowner asking you to correct.... it... before they will pay.? and what is there response if any when you tell them the first good rain will take care of it...nice job by the way

Thanks for all the help. The customer's usually accept the fact that it will wash off with the next rain. I have two concerns. First is the initial impression of the neighbors as to all the residue. Second, typically, Atlanta usually has extended droughts in July Sept. At that time would a post rinse at the end of the job eliminate that?

This can happen most often when a certain area of the roof is sprayed as a final "touch up", (but you didn't spray the rest of the roof around it)such as an area that had the heaviest build up, and the roof was dry, and hot, and the soap did not evaporate as fast as the SH and Water. You can take a garden hose, or you use your pressure washer and an open ball valve, or blck chem tip, and wet that area down a little. You don't need to wet it enough to create any run off, just a good light wetting, and it will dry and look uniform and consistent.
