Would appreciate any input on why this cleaning was not as dramatic as I expected. Stains were moderate to heavy. I used a 4% of CH (200oz in 50 gal of water) with Greenwash. I hit the roof twice plus a third time on the heavy areas. As you can see I still have a lot of stains (oxidized mind you but still there). I rinsed it the next morning to see if that made a difference but it didn't.
I used the same mix on some limestone around the pool that had very heavy staining and with a little light agitation looks good.
The first pic is the before.
Thanks!
Gregg

Your photos didn't upload. I don't use CH. All my work is with Sodium Hypochlorite and I never have any issues. OK the photos are up. We use either a 70/30 or 60/40 mix, depending on pitch and infestation, with surfactant when doing roofs. We don't rinse afterwards. We also do house washes and some concrete cleaning using SH.

AC, It was low 60's. I aggitated about 20 min. and would do it periodically as I cleaned driveway. Too much GW wouldn't have a negative effect would it? As I mentioned in another post my injector pump was pulling too much.

You are in Georgia so I would suggest finding a supplier that carries sh and using that. Not really sure why your using the ch. That roof looks like it needs another application then some rain.
Gregg, I used 4% ch, with greenwash on this demo and it turned out great. Look how bad the before was. Your third picture looks like a lot of granular loss, which would leave less color on the shingels.
Everyone is hard on ch, thus far I've only had great results with it. It may be because they get great results with sh and have for a long time. CH means more work with agitation ect but my results tell that ch works.

I think you just needed fresher CH. This time of year as the pool season comes to a close all of the chems get stale. Try going to a 4% mix. CH works great and everyone at Softwashapolooza will be getting demos on CH at the event.
I did a 4% mix so it must be stale. Didn't realize CH went stale. Just picked SH @ $6.58/gal ouch.
Going to try augmenting.
As for the granule loss there some minor loss.
Thanks guys!

Looks to me like one or two good rains that will clean up perfect. Rinsing just doesn't do as good as a good rain will. We from time to time will leave a roof like that, with the slight brown stains on them, and they will clean up perfectly after a rain.
Thanks Doug! I'll have to wait awhile for the rain. It's been over a month since the last one. Maybe something from Sandy will blow this way.
Sounds like there is some expectation management with clients needed on the heavily stained roofs.

Yes, we always explain that some brown stains may be there when we are done, but that it is just dead algae and will rinse away with 1 or 2 good hard rains. And it does.
