I did an estimate today for a home that has a fairly flat roof, so not to much run off, but all of the gutters run into a pond. The pond is a natural pond, probably 50ft long and 30ft wide. It has fresh water flowing into it. I told the woman I would bag all of her guttes and collect the run off, and then run water through the gutters. If any solution is to run into the pond it would be instantly diluted and not effect anything in the pond. I said this with total confidence. Then she told me she has big koi fish in the pond that she has raised since they were 3 inches long.
DO you feel safe??? Disconnect the downspouts and collect the run off in 5 gallon buckets and then dispose of properly. Will put you and your customer at ease, not to mention the fish.
When I heard Koi, I got scared. But since I am collecting the majority of the solution and then rinsing anything still left in the gutters, I don't see it being a problem. The only thing to worry about would be after a rainfall some of the solution left on the roof, may run down the gutter. Which is very minimal.
Any other downspouts on this line of gutters? Perhaps you could divert the run off to the other downspout. If not I'm with Mr. Rucker and use a large pail to collect run off. Any pictures?
Ryan with Beacon uses NERF balls as plugs in the tops of the gutter down spouts completely blocking them. Then he uses a gutter cane to fill the gutters with water completely overflowing the gutters during the cleaning. This so massively dilutes the chem that there is no plant damage and no chem infiltration into the pond.

So then what is the safest way to clean a man made pond full of fish at a restaurant that is made out of big boulders that are just covered in green nastienss that the customer would love me to clean?

Is it a BBQ resturant? Barter I work for food......lol

I'm going to catch everything, just so I can sleep at night. The only possible concern I have is, a light rain from the roof running into the pond? This isn't your typical back yard pond. Its a natural constantly new fresh water, swimming hole. I'm bagging and flooding. Then I'm going to stake out the pond with a flashlight, if I see any of those koi go belly up, I will snatch them out before the HO realizes they died.
No it's not a BBQ restaurant! LOL but I do eat there regularly and we are going to barter a bit which is how I got the bid for the outdoor patio to be cleaned. But i'm a little nervous about cleaning the waterfall and pond since it has about 20 or 30 fish in it. Any Advice to clean it and still have living fish afterwards? I think the only reason I'm getting the work is because I promoted softwashing and not needing a pressure washer because the last guy that did it messed up a bunch of the landscaping.
Use a scrub brush, and just dip the brush in the solution. That is what I would do. Very minimal amount running off, since their is no spray. Then just rinse it off.
