That is a great question mam, and your right, they sure could. But it would be very important want assure that the product at Home Depot has been approved for roof cleaning by the manufacture of your roof shingle. If it is not, then I would advise against it. Many of the Roof Cleaning products sold on the market today can actually cause damage to your roof. The process, method, and cleaning products we use are completely safe for your roof, and are the only way to clean a roof as recommend by the very people that manufactured your shingle.
You know mam, I could change the oil in my car to if I wanted, but there is a possibility that I could do something that could cause more expensive damage to my car, than taking it to a Professional. I am sure you will agree with me mam, that you would to have your roof cleaned in the correct manner and by a Professional. I'd be pleased to come by and give you a FREE DEMO and ESTIMATE, What is your address???
I was speaking with a lady today and she said "Why would someone pay to have their roof cleaned? They can just use the stuff at Home Depot. Well I guess some people don't like to go up on their roofs."
What response would you give this possible client. By the way her roof is dirty.
1. look at the layer of dust on the bottles at Home Depot for that Jomax product.
2. They are also bloated bottles. The SH in them has degraded making the bottles swell. They have had many recalls for that over the years. Google it.
3. They say one bottle (pre mixed) can treat 200 square feet but actually only does about 50.
4. Concentrait must have bleach added and one bottle sayes it can treat 2,000 sq feet. Now you have to locate and pay for bleach.
5. House is 2,000 square feet, garage is 500 square feet. add for pitch 3,500 square foot roof. Now how much Jomax and bleach do you have to buy? ( my customers garages were 2,000 square feet)
6. Your going to have to use a pump up sprayer cleaning 2.5 gallons at a time. Hope you didnt have plans for the entire weekend.
7. Warranty..........what warranty?
8. Roof damage guarantee................what no damage guarantee?
9. Your going to get up on your roof?
$40.00 Two containers of Jomax $90.00 60 gallons of household bleach $20.00 Cheap Pump Sprayer $10.00 Respirator $5.00 Rubber Gloves $20.00 Plastic Sheeting $10.00 Eye Protection
$195.00 Total so far.
Now do you have a ladder high enough to reach? Safety gear? What was your weekend worth? Etc. Etc. Etc.....
Fact is your fishing in the wrong pond! Anyone with a do-it-yourself mindset is not our customer. They cant do math!
Market to the customers with wives who bought a $1,500.00 purse last week and are going out on the lake in their $40k boat sking, and never want to give up a weekend. That is your customer. They dont even know where Home Depot is!
I like Doug's response, with a female I may use this instead of the oil comparison.
I understand you can also go to your local drug store to purchase your hair color and do it yourself. The outcome could be a disaster. Your hair could turn a totally different color or even fall out. That's why there are professional hair salons. They may be more expensive but your going to get a professional service.
And that is what we provide, a professional roof cleaning service. We spend many hours educating our team.
With all that said we have a five year warranty.
Hope it helps,
John
JoMax is good stuff, I recommend it to DIY'ers all the time - always have. Don't fear these guys, embrace them - their going to send business your way.

Amen brother!
After an entire Saturday cleaning half the roof and getting lack luster results, they will pay anything you ask.
Thanks Paul.

Jomax is like a "bleach activator." It works by acidifying the Bleach. The active ingredient of Jomax is Acetic Acid, VINEGAR. It makes a small amount of bleach strong enough to use w/o damaging plants. This is because the small amount of acidified Bleach has very little sodium. That works in THEORY but in PRACTICE, you can clean just as well without the Jomax.
Wow no drama all answers. SoftWashSystems Community is the way to go! Great responses, I think AC has some great answers but they aren't a selling tool, because a DIYer isn't gonna listen to any of that. But a housewive doing her own hair, there is no chance that is gonna fly! I love using examples to sell I think that is a really good example.
I like to have pictures such as theses in my arsenal...
The first photo is my custmer's roof after they had treated it with "Spray and Forget" which they purchased at Costco. This photo was taken approx. three months after they self- treated the roof.
The second photo was taken later that afternoon after Spray Wash Exterior Cleaning provided a safe and thorough roof cleaning, with a multi-year warranty against the return of streaks & stains!!!!
You may want to avoid the hair coloring reference they my think you are calling them old. Perhaps a hair cutting refrence with their husband doing it...That might scare them into hiring you!
YES!!!! That is awesome - "would you trust your husband to cut and style your hair without messing it up?? Then why would you trust him with your expensive roof?!? Both your head and the house may need to be "re-roofed". Hahahaha.
