Where can I find bleach?

I use a local pool supply company for my 12.5%. I told them I would purchase exclusively from them and asked what type of pricing can they give me. They told me I had to purchase a minimum each week which I have no problem doing and I am able to get my 12.5% at a cheaper rate than the local chem supplier sells it for.

We had our own tanks. If you have a facility the savings on bleach alone can pay the rent!

Looked into getting my own tank system, could pick it up for about 90 cnt a gallon from the supplier, but must have a commercial location. They will not put the tank in a residential neighborhood, even thought we live on 3 acres.

See if they will deliver 240 gallon totes and hook up a pool pump to them. That will work.

That is a fair price for the CH but $155 for 100 lbs of SH is very high. Do you mean 100 gallons of SH?

Just remember though high at $155 a 55er, your chemical costs are still low compared to other areas of overhead. Payroll will always be your biggest expense.

I agree payroll in every business I have been part of has been the largest expense, but controllable like most expenses as long as you pay attention. I still can be profitable with these costs and I will continue to search for a better cost.

We just got a price of $1.05 a gallon and a $45.00 delivery charge and we need to take 400 gallons at a time. They want to inspect our tank before they will sell to us. I would like to use totes for now. The chemical totes should be fine. Any input?

You want to be sure the totes are in containment tubs or on containment pallets.They're pricey but..........

Does your tote have chemical seals or is there a concern with the bottom seal leaking at the valve?

It has a sealed valve, but also comes with a screw on cap.

The more you go through univar the more they will help you out on price, I started at 2.63 a gallon now I'm down to 2.41, I think they just want to make sure your gonna be a repeat, the only thing that hurt was the 70.00 drum deposit, but it's only a deposit :)

How does everyone move around those heavy 55 gallon drums as well as where do you store them for those of you running things from your home?

Stack pallets as high as the back of my truck and manhandle that sucker...lol I live on 10 acres but I have a back porch/Shop, thats my main storage area.

Mike,

The delivery co will drop them for you with a lift gate. You will need a barell dolly. Buy at ww granger. Then your system you bought has the multi tap for moving the bleach to the 100 gallon tank at 7 gpm.

When I need to move a 55, I use a heavy duty handtruck with ratchet strap attached. The one I use is for moving heavy appliances around. I usually only have to move them once when I get my deliveries, from there I use a transfer pump.

There are (6) 1500 gallon containers available here in Culpeper Va from a pool company that upgraded their tanks. $250.00/per. I got one :)

What was your bleach % origionally? Is the 65% your solution ratio???

welll the job is done....and they were satisfied, but i wasnt. i mean the surfaces were clean as they could get but i thought i would of gotten more help from the bleach...

My pool guy said its 65%....thats all th info he has..he also recommends that i wet the ground first, sprinkle it and the spread with a broom...

i did my own thing...i mixed it in water and sprayed with sprayer in concrete....nothing much happen...i then used our surface cleaner to jet the job done.. ihe have a face book page with the pictures...its www.facebook.com/Allaspectsltd

oh your using calcium hypochlorite. You need to use the 100 ounces per 1% in a 100 gallon tank example. http://softwashsystems.com/page_mixology.htm

I'm a little late responding to this, I guess. I get mine pumped into my tank at the shop for $1.85/gallon. We found recently that a great way to find bleach suppliers is to call bleach manufactuers and ask who buys from them. We had a lot of help from Olin Corp in AL. They gave us contact info for 4 different supplier that we could not find with a simple Google or YellowPages search.

I am going to post this here AC, but if it needs to move feel free to do so.

I was told by Univar in Altoona, PA that their SH is made a bit differently than other SH suppliers. I cannot right now remember the technical aspects other than the process produces hotter cleaner SH.

I pay $3.05 per gallon plus a bunch of fuel surcharges etc so our product is pricey. I have smiled in the meantime while we build our reputation with them and then we will begin to ask with more insistence for better pricing.

Do you know whether that story has substance over other producers?

I look forward to paying less per gallon, but really this is not the deal breaker on the bottom line, since we are able to charge rates that allow for reasonable profits as we carve out our niche in the marketplace.
